On closing night Thursday 3 May, an awards ceremony will be held, whereby a significant filmmaker hailing from the Western Downs will present two awards as follows:

Any Device Competition (Western Downs): 

  • A Camera Package worth $4,000 from Video Pro to the winning filmmaker which includes: a Sony A6500 Compact Camera; 28-70mm lens; DJI Spark Drone; VideoMic Pro+; Kingjoy Tripod; and a SanDisk Extreme Pro 64gb Memory Card.
  • Invitation for filmmaker to screen their film at Jimbour House
  • A Trophy Award for best film in the Any Device Catergory

Open Competition (Australia): 

  • A $500 voucher from Video Pro
  • A Trophy Award for best film in the Open Competition Category

Meet the Short Film Festival Jury

Jared Bazely

Jared Bazely is a freelance Director of Photography from Dalby, Queensland. In 2009 he completed his Bachelor of Film and Screen Media production at Brisbane’s Griffith Universtiy, during which time he discovered his passion for cinematography and crafting films. Now based in Brisbane, his freelance career spans over seven years as both a DOP and more recently a director. He has worked on a wide range of projects including dramas, documentaries, corporates, music videos and television commercials.

Nathan Frost
Cinematographer/Lighting Tech

Nathan ‘Frosty’ Frost is a Cinematographer and Lighting Technician hailing from Dalby, Queensland. Working professionally for the last seven years, he honed his craft on productions such as ‘Pacific Rim 2: Uprising’, ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’, ‘Alien: Covenant’ and other international blockbusters. He has also DP’d a wide range of commercials, feature films, short films and corporates. He is currently working internationally.

Robbie McGregor
Voice Artist

Robbie McGregor was born and raised in Dalby and now lives in Sydney as a professional actor, represented by RMK management. Robbie may be best known as the iconic “SBS” voice, but his career has spanned across many decades with a wide variety of voice acting, theatre and screen acting roles. McGregor’s most recent credit was playing a seducer, the central character in a play about internet dating by Rivka Hartman in late 2013, however his roles in television extend all the way back to playing characters in ‘Homicide’ and ‘Division Four’.

Shayne Armstrong

Shayne is an award-winning screenwriter. With his screenwriting partner, SP Krause, Shayne has written feature films; animated telemovies and childrens live action and animated series for Cartoon Network, Disney XD and Network Ten. Under the pen-name TJ Park, they have also released supernatural crime novel ‘Unbidden’ published by Harper-Collins. Together, Shayne and his partner won the John Hinde Award for Excellence in Science-Fiction Screenwriting twice. Shayne teaches screenwriting at Griffith Film School and UQ and is a Board Member of the Australian Writers Guild. He currently resides in Brisbane, Queensland.
